Nothing foolish happened on April Fools at all. I was disappointed.
One thing that did happen was that I have come to the conclusion that Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and his colleagues at the Project for the New American Century are some of the most dangerous people in America. These “neoconservatives” as they’re called are advocates of what is nothing less than imperalism. If there’s one thing that will fuel the already well-lit fires of hatred against America, it is this desire for neocolonialism in some of the most unstable parts of the world. There was an Onion article about the MOAB (Massive Ordnance Air Blast) bomb creating 1500 new terrorists with each blast. It’s funny (and sad) because it’s so true. Anyway, how did these right-wing extremists get their ideas implemented as policy? Blame Bush’s selection of Dick Cheney as his running mate, who then filled the Pentagon with a variety of these belligerent wackos. Then came 9/11, which allowed them to move what was once an extremist and unthinkable plan into real policy.
It’s amazing how I was blind to this until today (back in 1992 or so Wolfowitz first proposed his strategy of pre-emptive attacks against any power that threatened U.S. hegemony). Americans are still blind to it. I’m terrified for America and for the world. But at least now I know. I’m too tired to write much more, but this day has been pretty important because I’ve had to make some major revisions to my political beliefs.
