Matrix: Reloaded
Published by Duc May 15th, 2003 in EntertainmentThe Matrix Reloaded was cool! Spoiler time:
Yes, the writing was pretentious. But so was the writing in the first! It IS worse this time, but it still doesn’t bother me. I know they’re trying to sound smarter than they are and trying to be more philosophical than they are. If the Wachowski brothers were attempting some deep social discourse, then perhaps they failed. But it was still a damn good action movie.
Maybe there was too much fighting. But the scenes were still very well done. The 100 Smiths scene was great, even though it was pretty obvious which parts were CG. The things they accomplished in that scene were still amazing, though. Same for the highly-touted highway fight. Or Trinity and that agent shooting at each other while falling from that building. Yuen Wo Ping is a very talented fight choreographer.
What I still have yet to understand was that extended love/club scene. Clearly that was put in for a good reason, but I have no idea what it is. Maybe it’ll become more apparent in Revolutions. Brian speculated it may have been included to show human indulgence. Justin at Plinko was reminded of a quote from the first movie: “To deny our impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human.”
I’m just glad Revolutions is coming this November. Reloaded ended abruptly, so the sooner we get the conclusion the better.
If you haven’t seen it yet, when you do (and you know you will), STAY AFTER THE CREDITS.
