The New Wisdom

Got it

So I have my new laptop, a Compaq Presario 2135us. I’m using it to type this entry. Cheapness won the day as I chose a 1.8 Ghz Celeron over a real Pentium 4 or M. 256 MB of RAM, 30 GB hard drive, CDRW/DVD combo drive, all for $620 after rebates and rewards. I think I did well. A similarly equipped Dell would’ve been almost $200 more even with the current deals and a 15% coupon (which, as you can see below, have expired). It’s got some cool features like being able to support 2 monitors (I’ve always wanted this for programming and web development) and output to a TV with S-video.

I popped in the wireless card and drove around for a little wardriving. Found 3 networks: one on Great Creek, one at Boscov’s, and one somewhere on Jimmy Leeds near where all the nursing homes are. The only one I had a chance to try accessing was Boscov’s and unsurprisingly it was secure. I probably would have better luck with a residential network, since many are unaware of how to secure them.

Also, this ends week 2 of my new job. I know it’s very early, but I can’t help but have some reservations about choosing Aegis. The real test will come once I have my clearance. And even then they won’t give the good work to us new guys. Speaking of new people, 3 fresh out of college young’uns just joined the team. Naturally we all gravitate towards each other by virtue of simply being similar in age. It’ll be good to have some friends, so I’ll work on keeping them from hating me too much.
