Bar Hopping
Published by Duc November 16th, 2003 in UncategorizedI’m usually not cool enough to hit one bar in a night, let alone 3. Hardy organized a happy hour get-together at Copperfield’s on Friday, which turned out pretty well. I talked to my baseline (this term means nothing to anyone not on Aegis) manager Kirk. As I learned from Tony’s Halloween party he’s a pretty cool guy. Different from what I expected.
Anyway, this guy Mark from work had informed a bunch of us earlier in the week about a blues band that his friend’s friend was in. I wasn’t going to go, but a bunch of other people were talking about it, so I decided to go for it. Some of us headed to P.J. Whelihan’s for some food first. A guy named John from Lockheed was with us and we were all trying to determine which of the girls in the building could be considered “in his league”. My take was that “leagues” are bullshit. To some extent they most definitely exist, but they can be shattered. Nerdy Asian guys have done it, so anyone can. Anyway, John and Chris from Lockheed are definitely cool, and I hope John ignores most of the “league” advice he was given. I’ll say this about P.J. Whelihan’s: They hire the best waitresses in the universe. And the clientele is great too. And the buffalo wings are excellent.
Anyway, after that I finally headed over to October’s where Mark’s buddy’s friend was playing and met up with Amy and her friends. She and I were the only non-Mark office people there. The bar was definitely not a place I’d pick to hang out at. It was like one of those stereotypical movie biker/trucker bars. The large bartender woman fit the stereotype perfectly too. It was awesome and yet it sucked, so I doubt I’ll be going to establishments like that again. What was pretty cool, though, was that the guy that was with Amy and her friends works for Matchbox, which apparently has a design office in Mount Laurel. Bloody amazing. He apparently worked on (he said “designed”) the toy BMW Z8 on my desk. That’s a cool job if I ever heard one.
