Colonial Williamsburg
Published by Duc November 23rd, 2003 in TravelI have to say I’m a bit disappointed with Colonial Williamsburg. The commercials on TV make it look like a living city with all kinds of people outside in period costumes doing 18th century things. Fife and drum corps marching around, lots of carriages and horses, kids playing, women churning butter, etc. Maybe it’s because we went on a Sunday, but there were few of those things going on. Sure there was a blacksmith, a wigmaker, a basket weaver, and other such people inside the buildings, but that’s pretty much like Cold Springs in Cape May. And the fricken’ streets were paved with ASPHALT. I doubt they had that in the 1700s.
It was still neat, though, albeit expensive. The people working there are pretty well informed. I guess if you’re in the area you should drop by. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Pictures are forthcoming.
