The New Wisdom

Spider-Man 2

I’m so horrible at updating. It’s not like I don’t want to. Most days I do in fact think about what I should write, but it takes too much time and I don’t have much of that to spare. Plus, I’m not like a lot of people who have plenty of things to say, whether they’re random things or focused thoughts (like Ben’s politically-heavy LiveJournal).

But tonight I can talk about Spider-Man 2 briefly. I actually got back at 3 AM, but it’s been tough getting to sleep since I’m still all excited about having seen the movie. There’s no point in denying that all my life (even now) I’ve wanted to be a superhero. Of all comic book movies, Spider-Man 2 has by far done the best job of helping the viewer live the life of a superhero vicariously.

A big part of that is the character itself. Spider-Man’s a young, nerdy guy who’s vulnerable and tortured. But it’s the actual movie itself too. Comic book battles should always be dramatic and the hero should always be ripped up and drained down to his last ounce of energy. Like Death of Superman. Light on plot, but the action was stunning. The battle scenes in Spider-Man 2 were very comic booky. Comic books also feature very dramatic love and sacrifice. These raw emotions were portrayed very well by the actors and the writing.

It was a great movie.
