I hate Warner Bros.
Published by Duc July 16th, 2004 in EntertainmentYou’d think that after the massive success of the Marvel comic book movies that Warner Bros. (owner of DC Comics) would have learned something: respect the material by treating it in a serious way and viewers will respond. People have been reading these comics for decades because they’re great stories with great characters. They’re flawed and tortured, yet so heroic and willing to sacrifice.
Warner Bros. has failed to understand this. Well, maybe they have for Batman Begins, which honestly does seem by all accounts to be phenomenal, but you can forget about the other franchises. All you need to read is this:

You know, I like Jack Black. I do. He’s a funny guy, and a Kerry supporter. I like comedies too. But don’t take Green Lantern, put a fat guy in the suit, and turn one of the greatest heroes ever into a character for comedic relief.
From a post at Plinko:
“The Green Lantern stories have been absolutely riddled with dark material, from GL John Stewart’s crippling injuries and the murder of his wife, to GL Guy Gardner’s near maniacal beatings of those he fought, to per haps the greatest fall of a superhero, Hal Jordan’s turn toward an evil path and his quest for power in which he kills every other GL in the entire universe, except one, in order to steal their power rings.”
I know GL isn’t really one of the most beloved comics since it’s a guy with a ring. But what’s cool about it is that a.) the ring does all kinds of awesome shit; anything your imagination can come up with and b.) the kind of nobility, honor, courage and strength of character that the Green Lantern Corps represents in being able to give a normal person unimaginable power overnight.
Jack Black, I’m afraid, has no such convictions. There’s no way Mr. Black would wield this power responsibly. And it’s now obvious to me that Warner Bros. can’t handle the responsibility of paying respect to DC Comics’ most treasured franchises.
