I Am a Gay American
Published by Duc August 19th, 2004 in PoliticsI like to write down some events so I don’t forget about them.
On August 12, 2004 at around 4 PM, I took a break from working to check CNN.com for some news. In a red bar at the top, reserved for stories that are breaking and that no full length story has been written yet. It indicated that New Jersey governor Jim McGreevy was resigning. “WTF?” I thought. I knew there were some scandals surrounding him, but I don’t follow NJ politics that well and I didn’t think he had done anything that egregious. I check MSNBC.com. It says there might be sexual allegations! WTF?? Then I’m scouring for info and I go to NJ.com, which has a blog of breaking news. The blog reveals that the sexual allegations are from a MAN! W… T… F…???? All the while I’m updating posts I made at Plinkomedia and WeDidItMan.com. Then I go to Gaming Age’s general discussion board and that’s when I learn that Jim McGreevy announces to the world that he is a gay man. It was such a crazy last hour of work.
I don’t really know what to think. Politics sure is crazy, though. Anyway, I kinda want Jon Corzine to stay in the U.S. Senate. I think he can do more for us there and who would take his place? I don’t even know how they do that. Would he become governor and then appoint a replacement himself? Or would McGreevy do it? Anyway, on the other hand, I think he’d win the NJ governorship handily. I’ve read that McGreevy set his resignation date for after the presidential election so his scandal wouldn’t affect Kerry’s chances in NJ, but part of me thinks it would be better if we had the special election and a successful Corzine for Governor campaign could improve the Democratic image. Maybe New Jersey is pretty safe and it doesn’t matter anyway.
