I’m a little late on this, but the corporate tax bill Congress passed this month is so outrageously evil, I’m beside myself with fury. It even has the requisite Orwellian name: “American Jobs Creation Act of 2004″. Why do people let Congress get away with this? There’s a nice list of the top 10 outrages of the corporate tax bill, but you’re welcome to use Google’s news searcher to find your own sources. You’ll find that it allows churches to be active in partisan politics without forfeiting their tax-exempt status. Or that charitable deductions will be limited.
You’re thinking, “But you’re a software developer and the bill classifies software makers as manufacturers, giving them a tax break that will encourage them to keep jobs in America!” Will it, though? Or will it give a tax cut to companies that are going to offshore the jobs anyway? Plus, even if it does work (and believe me, as skeptical as I am, I sure as hell want it to work), that still doesn’t justify the other crap they’ve packed onto this bill.
