Activism

Step 1: Activism begins with you

Here are some simple actions you can take right now to start seeing change in your world.

1. Vote.
Come November, there's a storm coming. If you aren't registered to vote yet do it right now. Go. Register. Come back. We'll still be here.

2. Sign a petition.
The famous Move On petition sparked a movement. There are hundreds more petitions on The Petition Site. Give as much of your info as possible so when the creators take the petition to your congressmen, they'll listen to what you (as a constituent) have to say.

3. Vote.
Become as informed as possible. Whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, or a member of a third party, check out voting records and issue sheets for all the candidates. Try Project Vote Smart.

4. Email your congresspeople.
www.house.gov/writerep has contact forms for all representatives. Email the president too. His email address is president@whitehouse.gov. A very nice autoresponder will get back to you right away. :)

5. Vote. If you need an absentee ballot, get one. Don't assume your vote won't matter. Everything will be contested this year.

6. Stay informed of current events while they're still current, and get your information from a variety of sources. Try The BBC, National Public Radio, and Outrage Radio to counterbalance any Fox News fetishes you may have.

7. Vote.

But activism doesn't end with you... Step 2: Get involved
